FKT: brave or stupid?

Today's post is in video format yo! A little bit of background here.  On Wednesday's post I asked readers to submit a question which I would respond to via my first video post.  You can read the comments in their entirety or watch me stumble through them with my flimsy cue card.

This is my punishment for buying a sweet laptop with a built-in webcam. I created a YouTube link to the same video making it the talk of the internet or just more accessible. This is my first official video post so tread lightly or not.   Have a good Thursday!

Comments

Wicked. Youtube is full of strange thing, and I've got a feeling you'll fit right in ;)

Cheers!

Celine Dion? Really? I would have gone with the Moose.

I can't laugh too loud, for it would wake up Mr. ARM, but your sign off was classic!! for a moment there, I thought you were going to go turn on some American Music...once again, denied.

I love video Monkey Boy! You know the masses are going to want more, right?

Haven't looked at it yet (still loading) but wanted to get into the top 5 comments. I have a feeling by the time I'd comment tonight I'd be number a cajillion. Yes that's really a number.

Oh my God. Your answer the the precious moments figurine was priceless!! Betsy??? Way to pull a name out of your ass!

Nicely done busting out the French there Mr. Lessinges.

And if that's not a good way to sign off then I don't know what was.

You sounded sleepy. How late did you do the video?

Very nice! I vote for more videos in the future.

OH and when you said you had to find a good way to sign off and stuck your ass in the screen I thought you were going to moon us for a second there!!!! I was very relieved when you morphed into Monkey Boy.

i wanted to get into one of the top slots too. cuz that's how i roll. ill watch soon!

Sorry brookem I didn't mean to hog the last three spots of the top 5. I didn't even realize! I'm so selfish!

I had to watch it again.

Nice ass! I'm with Airam - I thought you were going to moon us, too!

I'm at home today, so I will be back often today to watch this because you crack me up.

that's okay airam. it's all about timing. :)

so, i loved it all! loved the busting out the french (damn right airam), and monkey boy. the betsy comment really got me. age 10, good answer, and good reasons! obviously loved the triathlon answer (and holy hell, i guess i better).

it was cool being able to hear and see you answer these questions. adds another dimension to things, you know? whereas sometimes sarcasm and such are lost in just plain writing, it is neat to see it all captured in this type of scenario.

more. please.

watch out for amanda- she's a wild one when she's working from home.

You are adorable! For some reason I pictured you way more hyper, but you are nice and calm with a soothing voice. I loved this! I am bummed that I missed getting my question to you in time but you did well with the questions you had. The precious moments question/answer killed me. My daughter's godfather gives her one every year for her birthday and I believe Betsy is actually one. I'm not positive on that though because I don't usually read the names.

I too thought you were going to moon us. I like the ending you chose better though! The volume was so quiet for me (and I couldn't seem to turn it up) that I had my head pressed up against the speakers to hear it, so if you had mooned us, it would have looked really weird with my head right there.

Sooo great. And I agree with Tori, you do have a soothing voice. Like a CBC radio broadcaster. I think my favourite quote was "Sound, is a combination of movements". I'm teaching that to my kids today. And Betsy? Oh good stuff. This was a great idea Egan!

All this video excitement and I can't watch until I get home. How sad.

I'm just wondering, if it's creepy if I watch it more than once? I suspect if I have to ask if it's creepy-it is. (Remind me to tell you what happened when my roommate heard you speaking about Celine Dion...)

ha, brandy, you're too much. you are a creep! :) um, id like to know what your roommates response was to celion dion too. please.

and i think it's funny that egan's readers are having conversations amongst ourseleves on his blog before he's even had the chance to comment.

My stupid computer is telling me that I my 'Quicktime' is missing some component and that it can't show me your video...I will try later on, on my hopefully less stupid computer;~( It sounds like your video should be nominated for an award...anyone from the Academy out there?

Nice. I played along this week in honor of you and the Mrs. L.

OK, I could hear it but not see it, which was ok, till I missed the signoff, dammit!

The beginning of the sign off, where you just stuck your ass in the camera, I would have shot coffee out of my nose if you had ended it there.

I've watched it 4 times already! What does that make me? And Brookem, I think Egan should just go ahead & make his blog a discussion board. And, hmmmm...Lynn has a "stupid" computer. I knew I loved her for some reason!

Welcome to the life of broadcasting! Got an agent?

Darn. I'll have to wait and watch it at home.

Well, at least I'm not creepy alone. And yes, I do enjoy the fact that us commenters are so self sufficient that we can continually discuss things without the prompting of Egan. So, anyone have any great weekend plans? I'm kidding. Brookem, I suspect that the roomie story might make it into an actual post. Be prepared!

Crashdummie - ha, as long as you don't I'm normal or a "reasonable person" then we're good.

Amanda - you know I couldn't do what I wanted to with my American Music answer because it was like 2:00am when I recorded the video. Not so great to wake a sleeping pregnant woman. I'm glad you liked the sign off and we'll just have to see what sort of reception this video gets.

Airam - that is not a number, from what I know. Hey, go with your bad self woman. You're in the top five. Is the paper complete yet?

Airam - I recorded the video during the bewitching hours. You like the Betsy answer eh? I have to research those Precious Moments™ figurines and see if Betsy exists. I'm glad you approve of the French usage. I should plug that in to the French blog.

Brookem - I love it when you say "that's how I roll".

Airam - I will let you and Brookem talk amongst yourselves. Carry on...

Amanda - I didn't think about mooning the camera at all. Never even crossed my mind. Hmmm... You're home today? Sweet. Watch it as often as you like, make sure to turn the volume up a bit as I was sort of whispering.

Brookem - you and your obsession with timing. No comment.

Brookem - more videos eh? We'll have to see how this one goes over. If I get a call from my mom tonight about it, well this might be the only one I ever record. 10 is the first age that popped in my mind, but there have been plenty of other great times in my life. I guess for me it was all about obligations and at 10, you got nothing.

Brookem - yes, that's very true about Amanda and her work habits. She's got that damn Google reader going so she's first to comment everywhere too. Stupid blog readers!

Tori - sorry the volume was so low. I had to make sure I didn't wake Mrs. Lessinges while recording this. Imagine this scenario: "hey, what are you doing down there?" Oh nothing, just recording a video for my blog. "You do realize it's 2:00 am right?" Yes I do, but I'm that dedicated to my blog yo! (okay, that's how it may have gone down.) I can be quite serious when needed, but it's rare. The birth day will be interesting for me.

Brandy - I love the CBC comparison and will take that as a huge compliment. Not creepy at all to watch it more than once. I watched this one YouTube video like 15 times one day because I want to parody it. Totally normal I say. I must hear about the Celine Dion thing.

Brookem - yes, Calgary is full of odd people perhaps?

Brookem - hey, don't think I'm not seeing any of this go down.

Lynn - I will try to get this clip on YouTube for ease in viewing. Looks like I will have to wait until I get back on the home computer though. Are you stroking my ego?

*pixie* - yeah, thanks for playing along. I'm so glad you received an iPod sock, you're very worthy.

Logo™ - the signoff is a taste of Monkey Boy, just a spec of him.

Furiousball - ha, now I know how to make you spit coffe. Consider yourself warned.

Amanda - do I dare ask how many times you've viewed it now? Discussion boards are fun, but high maintenance. Wait, I think I just described myself in a comment. Woot woot.

That was wonderful. I am sitting here with a huge grin.

Sally - an agent? Hmm, do I need one? I don't think so, but that was kind of you to say it.

Churlita - oh yes, make sure you turn up the volume as I had to kind of keep it down.

Brandy - the roomie story must be shared in some forum. I'm sure you'll provide a great slant on this too. It's impossible to be a "creepy blogger" isn't it?

Meno - you're grinning? Then I consider the video a success. Yeah.

What the fuck? You don't have a favorite Precious Moments™ figurine?

P.S. Stop looking at your cue cards. Cheater.

Sprizee - I couldn't find any that I liked online. You have one I might like? Damnit, there's no Betsy.

Sandra - cat get your tongue?

and i love how you just said, "at 10, 'you got nothing.'" damn those blog readers, you know my issues with those. the kitty does have sandra's tongue. meow.

you know i was just going to mention how your whispered delivery reminded me of Mark Linkhous' (of Sparklehorse) singing style which he adapted from recording while his own wife was asleep.

Brookem - well, I wasn't really able to articulate why 10 all that well. So let me try it now. It was the golden age when Pac-Man was king and cold cereal was consumed for every meal. On a serious note it was also before I lost my two siblings and prior to my parents getting divorced, but that's kind of a downer. Great question Brookem. You get a kitty next week right? Use it to chase said mouse around your pad.

Furiousball - I should know Sparklehorse right? Interesting way to adapt a voice. At least I can do this stuff while she's asleep. At our old house, if I farted anywhere in the house.. she could hear it. Why must I confess this?

That last comment of yours made me laugh about if you farted anywhere in the house she could hear it. Our house is big, but very open so you can pretty much hear everything from anywhere in the house. For some reason, in the kids rooms it is pretty silent, but everywhere else you can hear everything. Our house also echoes a bunch and irritates me. I have a feeling if anyone farted anywhere in the main part of the house it would echo and sound like a sonic boom. Done sharing now. Carry on.

Yeah, no Betsy. But there's an Egan version.

Yes, referring to your voice as something from a CBC broadcast is pretty much one of the greatest compliments ever. I think the only thing that might top it is if I ever tell you you're better than cotton candy ice cream. When that day comes, I know our bff status will have been cemented. (Oh and I asked the kids today what they thought of the sentence 'sound is a combination of movements'- they totally dug it and then one girl said "then silence is a combination of thoughts", which I thought was pretty neato. And then we had a huge conversation on sound vibrations, you know, just to boost my teaching cred.) And that's been my day so far. (And yes, I'm currently aiming for longest comment ever.)

I'm waiting for the Youtube link. I don't want to download another plugin.

Can't wait!

Brandy - you're not even close to the longest comment ever. I think that hono(u)r goes to Mr. Boston Chris. No, that's not true. He wrote the longest blog entry I've ever seen that wasn't copied and pasted. Amanda has some long comments, but I love them.

Cotton candy ice cream is really good. I will take my compliment and put it in my pocket. I love that you used my "combination of movements" thing in your class today. That's really cool. I've been thinking about sound the past week as I was skrinkering around the house trying not to wake Mrs. Lessinges and her mom. You're a wicked good teacher.

The Grunt - hopefully I can get it up there tonight. I tried it last night and it didn't work. I will tinker around with and keep you in the know. One thing is for sure, my video wasn't longer than YouTube's 10 minute limit.

I have that effect on people, I am an excellent fart interrogator.

"Amanda has some long comments"

That's what he said.

haha amanda- we think alike. i was JUST going to say that.
NICE nice nice usage of skrinker and wicked. im lovin it.

I'll have to wait until I get home.

Furiousball - you have mad skills. I bet you love those ESPN News TV ads about the guy talking sports out his ass.

Amanda - ha, well played young lady. I'm glad you didn't disappoint.

Skrink - my blog is here to woo the masses or maybe that's just a select few. Anyways, I think you get the picture.

Nessa - okay, I will convert it to YouTube before I create a new post. You get Serious Egan this time around.

yeah, i hope to get kitty next week. woot!

Celine Dion? No really

I better watch it again after I heard her name, I blacked out and rolled off the sofa.

Yay that Brookem's getting a kitten next week (hopefully).

Ok, so I watched it one more time (this puts me a 7, I think). I'm sorry, but something about it just cracks me up. Especially this: "just don't do it when you're drunk...with a buddy...or whatever" So something I would say. Oh and the sound bit that Brandy loves? It makes me think of time being an invention. I don't know why, but that is the first thing I thought of when I heard you say that.

And now, I can not watch this video anymore for that will officially make me the creepiest blogger of the land.

That was alot of fun. I love your signature signoff.

Amanda- I watched it three times, so I mean, we both can be creepy together. And I like the bit you like too. Sigh. Egan, there's just so much verbal gold in that video.
